Out of Hours Service

Between 6.30pm and 8.00am Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays your call will be redirected to the NHS 111 service.

In the case of urgent need when the practice is closed you can call the Out of Hours Service on telephone number 111. Your needs will be assessed and advice offered or arrangements made for you to see a doctor.

Please do not ask to see a doctor out of hours unless you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.

Call 999 in an emergency. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.

Occasionally the surgery closes for staff training and notification of this is stated in advance on the surgery information board.

Extended Hours

We offer extended hours every Saturday (by strict appointment only). We are not open for general enquiries or for the collection of prescriptions. Patients will be directed to the out of hours service.

Patients with appointments will be given a mobile number only to be used on a Saturday to cancel appointments for that day.

We also offer extended hours 1 evening per week (6.30pm – 7.30pm), this has the same rules as Saturdays. These days often change as this is done on a rota system.
We try to offer the extended hours to patients who find it difficult to access the surgery Monday-Friday.

FROM SEPTEMBER 1ST 2018 THE NORTH EAST ESSEX GP NETWORK WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE 8 AM – 8 PM EXTENDED ACCESS TRIAL ON BEHALF OF NHS ENGLAND FOR A PERIOD OF 6 MONTHS. EXTENDED HOURS WILL BE SHARED BY THE GROUP AND ST JAMES WILL OPEN SATURDAY MORNINGS 8.30 – 12.30.
